It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Dorothy. She was an extraordinary woman, a dedicated teacher, a loving wife, a devoted mother, a proud grandmother and great grandmother; and a cherished friend to many. Her kindness, grace, wisdom, and faith inspired all who knew her.

A celebration of her life will be announced for June when her entire family and her friends can gather to celebrate her.

Wayne Edward Carrington Sr.,

79, of Oneonta, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010, at his home with his family at his side.

He was born April 11, 1930, in Meredith, to Glenmore W. Carrington Sr. and Elsa McIlwain Carrington. The family moved to Southside Drive in Oneonta from Meredith in 1935.

He graduated from Oneonta Senior High School in 1948, and later enlisted with his brother, Sterling in the United States Army in 1952, to serve during the Korean War assigned to the 8th Transportation Europe Traffic Regulation Control Group in Manheim-Kerfetal Germany.

He attended Albany Business College prior to a 41 year career at the Wilber National Bank, retiring in 1990.

Wayne married Dorothy A. Bennett of Sauquoit on Aug. 19, 1950, and enjoyed 59 years of faithful devotion as they lovingly raised three children; Kathie Anne, Judy Lynn and Wayne Edward Jr.

He was predeceased by his father, Glenmore, mother, Elsa; and three brothers, Sterling J., Keith L., and Glenmore W. Jr., and his wife, Norma.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Dorothy; and his children, Kathie A. Greenblatt, Judy L. Carrington and Wayne E. Carrington Jr. Kathie's husband Arnold and their children, Dr. Rachel Aghara, husband Dr. Sukesh and newborn son, Rishikesh of Houston, Texas; Lauren Veltin, husband Jeff and son Mikah of Oneonta; Judy Lynn Carrington of Boca Raton, Fla., and Wayne E. Carrington Jr., wife Rebecca and their sons, Aben and Andrew of Oneonta.

Wayne is also survived by Shawn B. Hurlburt, a special friend; sister and brother-in-law, Lucy and Howie Jones of Utica and family, Larry, Sue, Sarah, Steve and Jake; sister-in-law, Margaret Carrington; and nephews, William "Bill" and David J. Carrington; Bill's wife Darleen and their family, Todd, Jannette, Peter, Karly, Olivia, Molly and Madison; David's wife, Lori, and family, Jared, Catlin, Bruce and Logan; niece, Debra Eramo, husband Kari, and family Jenni Lee, Chris and Josh, Alycia and Kaydence Carrington. Margaret Bennett and Hank Boffi and family Danny, Peggy and MacKenzie; Diane, Chris, Jessica, Erin, Nate and Linda, Bill, Russell and April.
There were many others for whom he loved as family including those he worshiped with at Elm Park United Methodist Church and his brothers in Freemasonry.

The Masonic Fraternity was a guiding light in his life which he served faithfully for 50 years at Oneonta Lodge No. 466 F&AM. He was Master in 1968, and more recently a trustee and he also served as a Past High Priest of Oneonta Chapter No. 277 Royal Arch Masons, Past Master of Oneonta Council No. 87 and Past Commander of the Otsego Commandery No. 76 Knights Templar and as a member of Norwich Commandery Knights Templar.

He was very proud to serve as Past Grand Master, Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of the State of New York in 1994 to 1995, and as a trustee to the Grand Lodge of the State of New York from 1993 to 1997.

Wayne is a past President of the Grand Council Charity Corporation of the State of New York involved in Parkinson's research and was also a member of Lodge, Council, Chapter Consistory of Utica, and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a Past Pre Eminent Governor of United York Rite College No. 127, Utica, Past Sovereign Red Cross of Constantine, member of New York College Masonic Societas Rosicruciana, Order of Noah (Canadian) and the American Lodge of Research. In addition to Freemasonry he had been a member of numerous organizations including: Young Republicans, Rotary, Jaycee's and the American Legion Post No. 259 of Oneonta.
Wayne enjoyed traveling back roads, golf, fly-tying, collecting fly fishing gear and history books on Delaware and Otsego Counties, but most of all he took great pleasure in his home, family and many, many friends.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, at the Bookhout Funeral Home and a Masonic Funeral Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday evening at Bookhout Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at the Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Olu Harding officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Wayne requested that donations be made to the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory, 2150 Bleecker St., Utica, NY 13501 or to Elm Park United Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820.
